REVISED JULY NEWSLETTER
Hello Ladies
I have lots to tell you today so “if you are sitting quietly then I will begin” – I think that is from “Watch With Mother” but not sure and anyway lots of you are not old enough to remember that programme !!
First of all the DINNER at The Forresters in Kilburn was excellent as usual and the service too even though they had an influx of walkers who turned up from Easingwold.
The CLARINS EVENING went really well and I first of all want to thank the team from Clarins at Barkers who seemed to bring the whole shop!! Dawn and her ladies in red were excellent giving a facial and discussing the products they used on a lady who was brave enough to sit there. They then talked about all the new products and what they are ideal for in certain areas of the face and neck. We could then buy whichever products we needed or didn’t need just had to try. I must also thank Vicky and Debs for serving the Prosecco and strawberries as the ladies arrived and then managed to obtain £24 from the ladies who deserved another glass !! I must also thank Sylvia for the fantastic selling of raffle tickets making us £200. We must use Rural Arts more often as it is a fantastic venue, close to Town and they are all so helpful especially Charlotte. The total raised was £521.00!!
The QUIZ was marvellous as Thirsk Rotary came with 6 teams and that made 16 teams altogether. The evening was lots of fun with The Ritz Flyers doing the quiz. Thank you to them and Christine for the food and the guys at the bar. Thank you to Malcolm and his team for arranging all the tables and seating. The refurbishing of Thirsk Athletic Club is completed and I must say that it is an excellent venue too and we are so lucky to have this facility not far from the Town to use. We banked £185.00 for the evening so we are definitely hoping the Rotary Club teams may come again.
The THIRSK & SOWERBY FESTIVAL 2017 is on Sunday 6 August from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thirsk & Sowerby Flatts Field. Events will include a Soap Box Derby, a Re-enactment Society, the Stonebow Archers, a Jerry Green Dog Rescue Fun Show and Bouncy Castles. There will be stalls, a beer tent, foot stalls and many other activities. There will be no admission. We are going to have a stall there selling Christmas Lightbulbs for £1.00 and the winner, chosen at the end of the day, will receive Lego ( kindly donated by Jo) relevant to the age of the child who wins. It will be necessary to have volunteers, each doing 1 hour (or more if possible) a total of 6-8 so please let me know if you are available to help. There will be an AUCTION OF PROMISES on 6 September and Jo and Vicky are busy with this at the moment so watch this space.
THE MURDER MYSTERY EVENING is on 6 October at The Angel again so please put that in your diary and as soon as tickets are available we will let you know – or call Jo on 01845 525030 or selbydirect@hotmail.com to reserve your tickets early.
The DINNER DANCE is on 18 November at Solberge Hall and Sal and Mark are busy with that at the moment We are looking into a coach which I think will be quite an advantage to many of you. I am sure that SAVE THE DATE information will be going out soon. Please again put this date in your dairy as if you haven’t been before it is lots of fun and will be a bit different this year so again watch this space.
The CHRISTMAS LIGHTS are being switched on 24 November. Vicky and the Steven Dresser’s Team are actively on with this at the moment. We did manage some sponsorship money last year which enabled the lights to be erected down Kirkgate and Millgate so the team are busy trying to locate some more funding and also costing if we could install lights down Finkle Street.
The CHRISTMAS FAYRE is on 24/25/26 November is being booked up quickly so again is you are thinking of having a stand call Jo 525030 orselbydirect@hotmal.com
I would like to just mention the Christmas Lights Fund. This year Guy has worked out that we will require £15,000. Hopefully with all the events we are holding we may get there but at the moment it looks as though we could be short, however, not giving up we will endeavour to sort funding or sponsorship to help us. I know I mention this all the time but if you do have an idea that you think could work make some more money just let us know. We did try asking everyone who gets the newsletter to donate £ 5.00 towards the costs and 17 of you kindly did that. However with 265 letters now sent out we had hoped that is would be more as we don’t ask for money to help us any other time. It has to be your choice to donate the £5.00 and if you haven’t already and wish to please leave it at Luke Miller’s and I will note that you have made the donation. For the Ladies who already have, thank you.
The next QUIZ is on 11 July so please let me know is you want to book tickets and also if you want to eat and have any dietary requirements. Tickets are £10 with food and £5 without.
The next LADIES DINNER is on 12 July at The Kings Arms in Sandhutton and the menu is at the end of the letter. Please call me with your choices by TUESDAY 11 July so that I can call the choices in to the restaurant 522333.
